Blonde. Gloss-kissed lips. Bronze skin with lightly dusted cheeks. Tinted eyes. Stilettos. Small leather purse that would only hold a lipstick, a cell phone and a tiny wallet.
First thing you think of? Yes, the ditzes, conformists... people we deem as being unreal and fake. But what if that's really them? What if that's their entire being? Not everyone is 'deep' and a 'non conformist' (whatever that means). Just a thought I got out of Kitty's entry on make up. Lol. Yes Kitty, this time you made me think.
Today on the bus (my moment of reflection)... for a second I thought I was a pretty good artist. I think it sounds really odd.. I guess that thought branched out from when Sophia asked me yesterday if she could use my painting for sInTacks (our school's literature, art, poetry magazine) and she was telling me how she was gonna display it in the layout and how it'd fit perfectly with this article someone had written. And I was thinking "wow people appreciate my art!". There's a saying that goes 'Art does not seek to please others." but how then, can it serve others? Where is the purpose within the sculpture, the painting, the sketch?
"The essence of all beautiful art, all great art, is gratitude." -Friedrich Neitzsche
Obviously it must first satisfy your own desire to express a certain emotion, feeling or make a point.... but who are you addressing this issue to? Yourself? How does great art stand if there is no one to appreciate it? All masterpieces that live up to its day: Da Vincis, Jackson Pollocks, Caravaggios, Vermeers, Velasquezs, Michelangelos, Picassos (Yech,, can you see that I am trying to break away from just Baroque and Renaissance artists without much success? lol), Rubens, Klimts.... they're all being appreciated by scores of tourists and art critics alike. If no one appreciated your art, it'll be long forgotten. So I'm pretty happy so many people have stopped by to look at my painting (I think it's because of the candy colours I used. It's a bit surreal). After all appreciation is what you reap from all the hardwork you put onto canvas.
