I close my eyes and I see your face
If home's where my heart is then I'm out of place

The other night I was listening to the Delilah show and a woman requested to hear 'Homesick' by Mercy Me because she had lost her mother-in-law.
Ever since English in first semester, I've come to the realization that it doesn't matter where I move to be it Chicago, New York, Hong Kong or Toronto... because my home is not found in a building. Yes there are sentimental attachments but what else does it mean more than a few memories? When the house has been emptied and time takes its toll.... it means less.
I can move anywhere in this world....... if my most loved people were there with me. I've come to see that my home lies within the hearts of other people.

I'll miss you so much. I already do.

You know what.. we see African/black people in two certain ways. They are either thugs or rappers on Much Music who sing about really stupid things.. or they're starving. It's a pretty big contrast between the rich and the poor. What's even more sad, is that that is the only part of their culture we know about. Everything else has disappeared in favour of black guys in jerseys and G-Unit shirts with huge silver chains with cars and women in clubs. Really. What else do we know about their culture. More or less, nothing.

In the end we will only conserve what we love
We will love only what we understand
And we will understand only what we have been taught
-Baba Dioum

And what have we been taught? I think the most powerful of all is that we have been taught, since we were little, is to buy. I still remember those colourful commercials for Lucky Charms, Barbie Dolls (accessories, batteries and friends not included!), Fruit rollup and Dunkaroos immersed in chocolate frosting. So I guess we'll end up hording and conserving those things that are precious to us now: computers, digital technology, purses (hehe), clothes, jewelry, money, cds etc.

I've realized that love makes you so incredibly vulnerable and- afraid (?). To give yourself to someone who could so easily crush you. It makes you realize how little time we have to live. I think the hardest thing to ever do is to let go of someone for the fear of them not returning. I think that's the greatest fear of all.
